Vacuum is ubiquitous in science and technology. Vacuum enabled the field of surface science, which in turn led to the creation of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
This meeting is organised as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the British Vacuum Council, and a celebration of the award of the 2019 IUVSTA Prize for Science to Prof. Phil Woodruff of Warwick University. The Prize was awarded for “outstanding contributions to deepening our understanding of the structure of surface through the development and application of broadly applicable tools now widely available to the surface science community”.
To complement the presentation from Prof. Woodruff, we have chosen five internationally-leading surface scientists who will present their work covering structure, electronic structure, reactivity, and the physics of dynamic processes at surfaces and interfaces.
